Research Associate Job #526 Full-Time Regular Position (1.0 FTE as described below) Located in Eugene, OR
Purpose: Oregon Research Institute is seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Associate to collaborate on research on personality and health. The research associate will work .75 time with Sarah E. Hampson (sarah@ori.org) and Lewis R. Goldberg (lewg@ori.org) on their "Hawaii" NIA grant, "Personality and Health: A Longitudinal Study" (http://www.lifestyle.hawaii.edu) and .25 with Lewis R. Goldberg and Gerard Saucier using the data from the Eugene-Springfield Community Sample (ESCS) and the International Personality Item Pool (IPIP: http://ipip.ori.org). The Research Associate's primary responsibility will be to work with other members of the team on preparation of publications and proposals, and on the design of future data collection. The Research Associate will be supervised by the Principal Investigator, Sarah Hampson. Examples of Duties: Conceptualize, plan, and write manuscripts for publication and perform data analysis using the Hawaii and ESCS data archives, collaborate with researchers from other institutions on data analysis and manuscript preparation combining the Hawaii and ESCS studies with other longitudinal studies of personality and health, serve as a major contributor to proposal development, collaborate on the design of future questionnaires for the Hawaii cohort, prepare and present research findings at national conferences. Position Requirements Knowledge, skills and abilities: Demonstrated ability to produce published empirical papers based on longitudinal data that relate personality traits and other psychosocial variables to health behaviors and outcomes. Demonstrated ability to conduct specialized statistical analysis appropriate for longitudinal data with multiple assessments. Demonstrated knowledge of procedures and protocols for conducting behavioral research. Ability to communicate effectively with the project staff and the public. Must be willing to work flexible hours and/or to increase hours during critical phases of the project. Experience and training: Ph.D. in the social or behavioral sciences with increasingly responsible research experience and prior demonstrated ability to perform research activities with limited supervision in content areas relevant to the project's needs, or any equivalent combination of education and experience that can provide the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job. Graduate-level coursework in statistics for behavioral science required. Experience in Windows or Macintosh environments required. Working knowledge of structural equation and latent growth modeling programs desirable. Personality traits and characteristics: Must be able to work effectively with others and to encourage positive relationships among the staff. Must be able to work at a high level of independence. Must be discreet and show good judgment. Must be able to reliably carry out and complete assigned tasks and responsibilities in an ethical and professional manner. Must be willing to adhere to the principles of confidentiality governing research work and to the ORI computer acceptable-use policy. Must value working in a collaborative environment.
