An Investigation of Direct Instruction Spoken English for At-Risk English Learners

Investigators are testing the efficacy of Direct Instruction Spoken English (DISE) for developing English oral language skills and improving basic academic outcomes for English Learners compared to the language instruction typically provided in high-quality middle school programs.

The purpose of this research is to evaluate the efficacy of the Direct Instruction Spoken English (DISE) program compared to typical English oral language instruction, and examine the differential response of 6th and 7th grade English Learners (ELs) to DISE instruction depending on their cognitive profiles and entry-level English language skills.
